Peace, Harmony, & Earth Day

Shirt: Lucky Brand Jeans
Shorts: Thrifted
Shoes: Urban Outfitters

Well, yesterday was Earth day and I decided this "Peace Harmony" was extremely appropriate for the occasion.  But, I do have to confess...I went graffitting yesterday.  I'm probably going to hell since I sprayed aerosols into the atmosphere, but it was all for the good of my friend Megan.  To keep it succinct, this kid asked my friend Megan to prom by recruiting the band into the cafeteria.  They played a song, and he played a solo on his saxophone.  After all of this hubbub, he held up a poster saying "Megan..Prom?".  Yes, this was in front of the whole school!

To say yes to this sweet boy, Megan recruited quite a lot of people to paint a mural.  It was an absolute blast, but I did feel a little bit bad since it was Earth day.  After all of these shenanegins, my friend Paisley and I played some frisbee with lots of other random people.  This weekend was amazing since it was 70˚+ every day.  I. Need. Sumer.

My gorgeous(?) artwork
Don't spray paint your body...it burns.
My friends are kind of cool.
I hope you all had a great Earth Day!

My New Favorite Store: Buffalo Exchange

While in San Francisco, I took a little trip over yonder to where there buffalos roam.  Okay, maybe not, but I did go to Buffalo Exchange.  Buffalo Exchange is by far the raddest exchange store I've ever stepped inside of.  It's like Goodwill on steroids.  While I was in this little heaven called Buffalo Exchange, I found a pair of lace shorts and a kimono-esque shrug.  Actually, I wore the shorts in one of my newer Lookbook outfits.
Anyway, I thought this store was cool when I was in it, but I started researching it the other day and found out it was even more awesome than I first believed.  The first store started in 1974 in Tuscon, Arizona by a woman from Sweden.  Since then, 42 more stores have popped up around the whole nation.  It is still independently owned by Kerstin, the Swedish woman, and her daughter.  Buffalo Exchange was the fist store to buy/sell clothes from people.

Kerstin and her daughter, Rebecca

If you have the chance, definitely visit their blog.  There are tons of cool giveaways, plus you can see outfits other people have made from finds at one of the stores.  And, if you ever get the chance to go to one of the stores, MAKE SURE TO GO!

Have a great Friday!

San Francisco: Day 2

And here goes day number two of my lovely vacation:

For breakfast, my parents walked down to the ferry building and got sourdough french toast.  YUM!  As we were walking back, I saw a street performer and gave him a dollar.  We got talking and he was quite funny.  We told him we were from Utah and he went off about how he loved Mitt Romney and the Mormons.  I couldn't help but laugh!  Even though he had some different views than I do, he was pretty great at drums and harmonica.  Taking his photograph was a blast.
After breakfast, we walked to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.  There were quite a few interesting exhibits going on, but an exhibition called Retrospective by Rineke Dijkstra.  She is a portrait photographer and captures her subjects' emotions exquisitely.  Her photos captivated me.  I stared at this one for 15 minutes straight!:

It was like I could see exactly what the young girl was thinking.

After visiting the SFMOMA, we walked back to our hotel to grab our bags and head on our way ): .
But...before we left, we went to Smitten Ice Cream in Hayes Valley.  They freeze the ice cream in one second right in from of you.  It was the silkiest ice cream I have ever put into my pie hole.
I was extremely sad when we got in the car and started driving to the airport.  We popped Girls into the CD player and my eyes started to well up.  I knew I liked San Francisco a lot before this trip.  But, I fell head-over-heels in love during this vacation.  My heart belongs to you San Francisco, I will be yours forever.

San Francisco: Day 1

I’m going to break this post up into two because one post will be too long and possibly bore you to death.  Let’s get one thing straight: San Francisco is where I belong.

We started out our first day with the breakfast of champions: Crêpes.

My parents and I got up bright and early to conquer the day with vigor.  We walked to Fisheman’s Wharf(I know, super touristy) and rented bikes(once again...super touristy).

As we were walking, we passed a club called Club Bimbo and guess who was playing...GIRLS.  What a coincidence right?  I mean San Francisco is their home base, they are on tour, AND they just happened to be in The City on that exact night.  The only drawback was that I didn’t get to see them...):.

We biked across the Golden Gate bridge(yes, touristy once again), and then headed on up to Haight Ashbury.  Let me tell you, that place blew me away.  It is the most eclectic place I’ve ever been.  There are music stores, smoke shops, vintage stores, cafés, and little boutiques.  I guess that makes sense though, considering it is hippy-haven.  I went to Amoeba Music which is the raddest record store I’ve ever encountered.  You could literally find any band there ever was at that place.  I also went into a couple sweet vintage stores.  I didn’t get anything..all way too expensive.

My beautiful mama.
After Haight St. we went to the Ferry Building which is chalk full with local artisan food vendors.  Coffee and gelato is where it’s at.  We left the Ferry Building after stuffing ourselves and walked back to Union Square, which is where we stayed.  As we were walking, we stopped and found this tiny park.  I ventured into it and I felt absolutely weightless.  I felt a wave of serenity wash over me.  I looked over the bay and I couldn’t help but smile.  This park was a little place of peace and quiet.  I could only hear the breeze and school kids singing below.  It was outstanding.  That is the moment when I knew San Francisco was my home.

Blue Bottle Coffee Co.
And this is where I fell in love...
Beautiful San Francisco
